Quick question when you think of outsourcing resources to another country what’s the first country that you might think of? India or maybe a country in South America or perhaps even China? Were you aware that there is another country that is making headlines and becoming a force in the outsourcing market? The new country that is becoming a major player is the Philippines and despite the global economies crashing all around us outsourcing in the Philippines grew a whopping twenty six percent.
One of the biggest hurdles for the Philippines has actually been the fact that a lot of industrial nations are largely unaware of the fact that English is taught and very well spoken in the Philippines. The word is obviously starting to get out though as outsourced call centers are the driving force behind all the growth right now.
There is a concerted effort to expand beyond just outsourced call centers as well. Back office outsourcing and a variety of technical fields are showing signs of significant growth as well. By next year the Philippines is projected to have grabbed about ten percent of the outsourcing market. That is a huge piece of the pie in a relatively short period of time and just goes to show that there is no shortage on demand for outsourcing work to cheaper labor.
I would be curious to know especially at a time when companies are cutting back so much just to survive where all this new business is coming from. I might wager a guess that a lot of it might be companies that were already outsourcing services to other countries but found that they could get the same services only cheaper from the Philippines. Or is outsourcing really the new way major corporations are going to have to do business to stay competitive and profitable? It will be interesting to see how the next few years play out for the outsourcing market as companies look for creative ways to business and still make a profit.
